The BJP manifesto promised ‘Samrudh Krushak Niti’, under which paddy will be procured at Rs 3,100 per quintal and the money will be credited to the bank accounts of farmers within 48 hours.
Additionally, the BJP promises to establish “Odia Samudaya Bhawans” in metro cities for Odia people living outside the state. It promises to fill 65,000 vacant government positions transparently in two years and introduce the Ayushman Bharat scheme within 100 days.2
Indian National Congress (INC):
The Congress Party’s manifesto for the 2024 elections in Odisha includes 90 promises and nine guarantees. They aim to address unfinished tasks from the BJD’s 24-year rule and the BJP’s nine-year term. Promises include a bonus on top of a Rs 3000 per quintal Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy, waiver of agricultural loans, Rs 2000 monthly pension for farmers, free 200 units of electricity for households, employment for 5 lakh youths, and Rs 3000 monthly unemployment allowance.3
Further, the party pledged to waive off loans of Women Self Help Groups, providing LPG cylinders to every family at Rs 500 and offering free health services up to Rs 25 lakh to both government employees and other people. The party also committed to providing a monthly allowance of Rs 2000 for the elderly, widows, Divyang (PwD) individuals, and women heads of families under Gruha Lakhsmi Yojana. Congress promises 27% reservation for OBCs and SEBCs in education and government jobs before a caste census. They pledge to refund chit-fund deposits within six months of taking office. The manifesto also includes setting up commissions for minorities, SCs, and STs. Within 100 days, they aim to withdraw criminal cases against SCs and STs in land disputes and formulate PESA rules.
